Men's Tennis Finishes 13th at ECAC Tennis Invitational

FLUSHING, NY - George Washington finished 13th at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Men's Tennis Invitational, a tournament that concluded on Monday at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Penn State, the invite's number one seed, lost just four matches as they won their first ever title, defeating Princeton in the championship, 5-2.
GW began play on Friday and fell to Harvard, the fourth seed. Senior Mustafa Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey/Ayazaga Isik) earned the only point in the match for the Colonials, who lost to the Crimson, 6-1. Gencsoy defeated Aswin Kumar in a dramatic three sets, 6-7, 6-2, 11-9.
On Saturday, GW battled a tough 12th-seeded Boston College team. The Eagles won all three matches in doubles play to earn one point before the Colonials fought back in the singles competition. Gencsoy and fellow seniors Sam Salyer (Minneapolis, MN/St. Paul Academy) and Elliott Daniels (Goldsboro, NC/Heritage Academy) earned three points for GW, but in the end, it was not enough, as BC sneaked by, 4-3.
George Washington faced-off against a familiar opponent in Sunday's final match, as they met Atlantic 10 Conference rival Saint Joseph's, the 16th seed. The Colonials cruised past the Hawks, 7-0, led by Gencsoy's third single's win of the invitational. The senior was supported by freshmen Erik Hannah (Sterling, VA/Laurel Springs) and Bryan Beasley (Tampa, FL/Jesuit HS) and sophomore Ryan Schlachter (Dallas, TX/June Shelton School/Utah), all of whom recorded victories.

George Washington will now take a week off before traveling to Newport News, VA, to take place in their next fall tournament, the Old Dominion University Invitational, held Oct. 12-14.
